Michael Tegtmeyer, 49, of Los Angeles, formerly of Britt, Iowa, died May 8,
1993, at home.
Michael Tegtmeter was born June 29, 1943, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the son
of Louis and Dorotha (Kraft) Tegtmeyer. As a youngster, he moved with his
family to a farm near Britt. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran
faith. He attended and graduated from Britt High School. He attended Mason
City Junior College and was named to the National Junior College Hall of Fame.
He then attended and graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in
journalism. He was a reporter for the Rockford (Illinois) Register Republic and
the news editor of the Owatonna Daily People's Press. He then moved to Chicago
and was director of public information for the Chicago Lung Association. In
1976, he was named executive director of Superior California Lung Association
and held that position until his death.
He received various awards and citations from Mayor Daley of Chicago and was
vice president of the Chicago Jaycees.
Survivors include his parents, Louis and Dorotha Tegtmeyer, Britt; two brothers,
Randy Tegtmeyer, Blairsburg, and Rick Tegtmeyer, Brittl a maternal grandmother,
Gloria Eggert, Britt; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria and Sharon; and one brother,
Marty.
