Millie was born on January 19, 1938, the daughter of Joseph and Mildred (Kopacek) Wellik. She was raised on the family farm alongside her six siblings, where she learned the values of hard work, faith, and the importance of family—values that remained central throughout her life.
She graduated from Britt High School, where she was active in school activities and was crowned Homecoming Queen. On June 5, 1957, Millie married Paul Horstman at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Iowa. Together, they built a life on the farm, raising their five children: Vicki, Kathy, Michael, Jeff, and JeanAnn.
Millie was a devoted wife, loving mother, and caring friend and neighbor. She worked tirelessly alongside Paul on the farm while fully supporting her children, never missing their activities and always placing family first. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was actively involved in the Catholic Daughters, served as a CCD coordinator for religious education, and was a member of the Westview Care Center Board.
After raising her family, Millie began working at The Hub, a men’s clothing store. She later co-owned and operated a successful women’s clothing store, The ViMil, with her sister Vivian.
The times Millie treasured most were spent with her family—especially gatherings filled with grandchildren, siblings, and new family members. She found great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enjoyed golfing, polka dancing with Paul, and spending time with friends and loved ones.
Millie is survived by her husband, Paul Horstman, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage; her children, Vicki (Paul) Seufferlein, Kathy (Bob) Eisenman, Michael (Nedra) Horstman, and JeanAnn Bruns; daughter-in-law Nancy Horstman; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her siblings Joe Wellik, Marvin (Kay) Wellik, and Jerry (Kathy) Wellik; and Bill Pritchard and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jeff Horstman; her parents, Joseph and Mildred Wellik; her parents-in-law, Elmer and Lucille Horstman; her siblings Elmer Wellik, Monica (Leonard) Paca, Vivian Pritchard, and Gloria Wellik.
Millie will be remembered for her kindness, strong faith, unwavering devotion to family, and the love she shared so freely. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Westview Care Center for their compassionate care.
