Obituary

Mildred Anderson, 94, of Britt passed away Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Westview Care Center in Britt.

Mildred Marie Anderson was born June 21, 1922, on the family farm in Orthel Township in Hancock County, Iowa.  She was the eldest of 8 children born to Henry and Charsty (Munson) Anderson.  Mildred attended country school in Orthel Township School.  She then attended Britt High School graduating in 1928 and Britt Junior College graduating in 1930.  Following graduation, she taught country school at Orthel Township School for ten years and was teacher to two of her sisters, Blance and Marlys.

After teaching ten years, she decided she wanted to become a nurse.  She attended nurse's training at Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota and graduated in 1943.  She worked in surgery at Kahler Hospital for three years.  She was a head nurse in the operating room and worked some with Dr. Chuck Mayo.  She also worked for the Mayo Clinic Blood Bank and then moved to Dubuque where she worked for the clinic for three years.  She moved to Little Rock, Arkansas in 1951 where she worked in a doctor's office and surgery for 18 years and later worked in the hospital for eight years.  Mildred retired in 1977, and returned to Britt.  Mildred enjoyed both teaching and nursing and was very good at both.  Blance and Marlys have many detailed workbooks Mildred made for them when they were her students.  Mildred was an exceptional nurse and several of her nursing friends in other states, including her supervisor in Little Rock, maintain contact with her family.

Mildred was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Britt and a very devout Christian.  She taught Sunday school at Second Baptist Church in Little Rock for many years and she made it a point to read her Bible through every year.

Mildred is survived by four sisters: Florence Carlson and her husband, Lowell of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Hazel Larson of Garner, Blanche Friedow and her husband, Verlyn, of Kanawha, Marlys Bergstrom and her husband, Don of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brother Norman Anderson and his wife, Ruth, of Peoria, Illinois; sister-in-law, Bettie Anderson of Britt, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald Anderson, sister Charlote Hunsley; nephew Tom Anderosn and four brothers-in-law Harvey Steiff, Morton Larson, Lee Hunsley, and Herman Hale.
