Obituary


Mildred M. Sorenson, 85, of Crystal Lake, Iowa passed away Thursday, May 25, 2000 at Westview Care Center in Britt, Iowa.

Mildred, the daughter of Warren and Viva (Wolfe) King was born September 15, 1914 at Clear Lake, Iowa.  She was raised in the Clear Lake area and received her formal education in the Clear Lake public schools.

Mildred was united in marriage with Edmund Sorenson on November 27, 1935 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  The couple made their home on a farm near Crystal Lake until moving into Crystal Lake in 1947.  The couple retired from farming in 1963.  Following Edmund's death in 1963, Mildred was employed for a short time at Winnebago Industries and later Ben Franklin and Swenson's Hardware.

Mildred enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She also enjoyed basketball games and watching television.

Mildred was a member of the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake and United Methodist Women.  She was an active member of the Crystal Lake Senior Citizens where she often made coffee and cleaned.  She was a member of the Birthday Club and Senior Citizens Kitchen Band.  Mildred enjoyed playing cards and pool at the Senior Citizens Center.

Mildred is survived by five daughters: Doryce Hanna and her husband, Bruce of Woden, Dorothy Brown and her husband, Garry of Corwith, Paulette Dahle and her husband, Ronald of Woden, Elizabeth Barnum and her husband, Edward of Blaine, Minnesota, and Loits Otis of Forest City; a son Kenny Sorenson and his wife, Leona of Crystal Lake; daughters-in-law: Wilma Sorenson of Winthrop, Maine; Genevieve Sorenson of Forest City and Marjorie Sorenson of Britt; sons-in-law: La Vern Holtorf and his wife, Jane of Ankeny and Herbert Schubert of Garner; 39 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister Irene Graham of Manly; sister-in-law Verniece King of Bristow, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edmund; two daughters, Marvella Holtorf and Ruth Schubert; four sons, Harlan, Calving, Russell and Morris; granddaughter Tresa; great-grandson Jeffrey; two daughters-in-law, Mavis and Jerry; brother George; two sisters, Violet and Grace.
