Milford B. Thompson
Milford B. Thompson, 94, of Kanawha, passed away Monday, October 13, 2008 at Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond.
Funeral services for Milford Thompson will be held Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Kanawha Lutheran Church with Rev. Janelle Siffring officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2008 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Chapel in Kanawha and continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Milford, the son of William and Tena (Luthro) Thompson was born December 27, 1913 on the family farm near Kanawha. Milford was raised in the Kanawha area where he attended country school.
Milford was united in marriage with Rose Kallem on February 11, 1940 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. The couple lived in the Kanawha, Gowrie and LuVerne communities. For Milford, farming was a life long occupation and he continued to farm well into his 80’s.
Then as his wife’s health changed, it was his turn to care for her. With his help they maintained their independence until her death.
After the loss of his beloved wife Rose in 2006, he continued to live his life to the fullest. He had interests in his families farming operations and their lives. He loved to travel and stay with his daughter and sons. Milford lived his whole life making sure that “family was number one.”
Milford was a longtime member of the Kanawha Lutheran church. He will be always remembered as a good and honest man.
Milford is survived by five children: Virginia (Harlan) Hansen of Rutland, Daryl (Ruby) Thompson of LuVerne, Dennis (Ruthanne) Thompson of Humboldt, David (Holly) Thompson of Kanawha, Douglas Thompson of Goldfield; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one brother Dwane Thompson of Harlingen, Texas; four sisters: Ethel Petersen and Marguerite Petersen both of Orting, Washington, Viola Engelstad of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Wilma Long of Britt; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Rose.
