Obituary


Milton L. Smith, 85, of Britt passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa under hospice care.

Milton, the son of Frank and Pearl (Volding) Smith was born November 2, 1914 in Crystal Lake, Iowa.  He grew up in the Crystal Lake area where he attended school.

Milton was united in marriage with Fern F. Charbonneaux on November 21, 1934 in Mason City, Iowa.  The couple made their home in Britt where Milton was employed as a carpenter.  He served with the United States Navy during WWII.  Milton began employment at Winnebago Industries in Forest City, in the Research and Development Department in 1960.  He was employed by Winnebago Industries until the time of his retirement.

Milton was an avid trapper, hunter, and fisherman.  He also enjoyed carpentry and gardening.  He was a member of the Garner VFW.

Milton is survived by two sons and six daughters: Milton Floyd "Billy" Smithof Britt, Patricia Van Gorp and her husband, Virgil of Marshalltown, Barbara Nonnweiler and her husband, Robert of Garner, Jean Perkins and her husband, Jerry of Britt, Judith Sonius and her husband, John of Britt, Nancy Michel and her husband, David of Britt, David Smith and his wife, Sandi of Britt, and Sue Steinlicht of Britt; 35 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchilren; four sisters: Evelyn Smith of Britt, Arline Blay of Albany, Oregon, Mildred Harley of Albany, Oregon, and Mabel McAndrews of Riverside, California.

He is preceded in death her his parents, his wife Fern in 1992, three brothers: Arlan, Luverne and Wilbur, two sisters Ella and Betty, and three grandchildren: Jennifer Steinlicht, Brian Perkins, and James Lammert.
