Obituary


Minnie Christians, 83, of Kanawha, passed away Friday, November 29, 2002, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Minnie, the daughter of Fred and Cornelia (Vanden Bosch) Rietema, was born January 28, 1919, at Kanawha, Iowa.  On February 22, 1939, Minnie was united in marriage with Edward Christians.  Together they made their home and engaged in farming in the Kanawha area until 1983, when they built a new home and moved to Kanahwa.

An active member of the Wright Christian Reformed Church, Minnie served as a Sunday School teacher, was also a member of the Ladies Aid Society, and served on numerous committees.

Minnie is survived by her children: Kathy Schroer and her husband, Ray of Sioux City, Nick and his wife, Marla of Ames, Paul and his wife, Peggy of Kanawha, and Donna Ellis and her husband, Kent of Coralville; ten grandchildren whom she dearly loved; two sisters: Winifred Pommer of Pella, Connie DeVries of Pella; two brothers: Art Rietema and his wife, Henrietta of Kanawha, Clarence Rietema and his wife, Grada of Holland, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward in January of 2001, one daughter Carol who died at the age of three from kidney cancer, one sister Tena Van Otterloo, and three brothers: two in infancy and John Rietema.
