Minnie Ellen Fox Higdon, 90, passed away Sunday, April 16, 1995, at the Westview
Care Center.
Minnie, the daughter of Walter E. and Christine (Larson) Fox was born January
19, 1905 in rural Britt, Iowa. Minnie attended rural school in Hancock County
through 7th grade. She then attended school in Britt and graduated in 1923.
Minnie taught school in Orthel Township until her marriage on March 22, 1924 to
Harold R. (Jim) Higdon. After her marriage she was a homemaker and was active
in the community and at church. She was a lifelong member of the United
Methodist Church where she was involved in the Women's organizations. Minnie
was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for 70 years, the American Legion Auxiliary
and the Britt Women's Club. She was a previous member of the Girl Scouts and
Cub Scouts where she served as a leader. Minnie was a past president of the
Britt School PTA and the Band Mothers Organization.
Survivors include her husband, Harold R. (Jim); four daughters: Marian Dingman
and her husband, George of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; LaVon Larson and her
husband, Arvin of Wesley, Iowa; Carmen Mower and her husband, Gene of Chippewa
Falls, Wisconsin; Shirley Nussbaum and her husband, Joe of Corsicana, Texas; two
sons: James and his wife, Esther of Britt, Iowa, and Charles and his wife, Mavis
of Redding, California; seventeen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant son, one sister and two
brothers.
