Obituary


Novaleen “Nonnie” Jenkins, 88, of Clarion, died Monday, January 10, 2005 at the USA Healthcare Center in Clarion.

Funeral services for Nonnie Jenkins will be held on Friday, January 14, 2005 at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion, Iowa with Father David Beckman officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation for Nonnie Jenkins will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2005 from 5:00–7:00 PM at the Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home, 602 N Main, in Clarion with a prayer service being held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Novaleen Alberta (Ryan) Jenkins was born March 13, 1916 in Independence, Iowa to Frank and Lylah (Dougherty) Ryan. She grew up in Independence where she was Miss Independence 1934. Later she worked at the Capitol Building in Des Moines where she met a young Iowa Highway Patrol Officer, H. L. “Hank” Jenkins.

Hank and Nonnie were united in marriage on November 17, 1937 in Independence, Iowa, but eventually made their home in Clarion. Nonnie worked at Mueller’s Photography Studio in Clarion until her retirement. Nonnie enjoyed people and spending quality time with them. The coffee pot was always on for the numerous friends who stopped by daily. To many she will be remembered as one of the the “Golden Girls.” Nonnie was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion.

Nonnie is survived by her children, Jack R. (Laura)Jenkins and Judy K. Heiden all of Clarion; grandchildren, Tracy (Peter) Graves of Austin, Minnesota, Jason Jenkins of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Troy Heiden of Clarion; three great-grandchildren; and her nephew, James (Sandee) Couch of Palm Desert, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, H. L., in 1987; and her sister, Dorothy Couch.
