Olive Stone Johnson, 104, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 1999 at the Westview
Care Center in Britt, Iowa.
Olive, the daughter of Frank and Agnes (McLaughin) Stone, was born August 17,
1894 at Marathon, Iowa. The family moved to Britt in 1907, where she received
her education from the Britt Community Schools. Olive was the oldest of seven
children. She was united in marriage with Gilmore Johnson on February 3, 1915,
at the home of her parents. The couple then farmed north west of Britt, where
their son Donald was born. The family then moved to Britt where they lived in
the same house for 49 years.
Olive has lived in Britt close to 90 years. She is a current member of the VFW
Auxiliary. Olive was an active member of the Methodist Church, which she
joined; June 27, 1915 she was also a member of the Methodist Women Society. Her
younger years she drove mail truck, she hated the delivery of Christmas catalogs
the most, because of the added weight. She led a very positive life - never
complied about anything or anyone. She loved to sing her favorite hymns with
her niece Mary. Olive was a warm and welcoming person who loved people and
"coffee"! Her greatest pride was her grandchildren; she always talked so
lovingly of them.
Olive is survived by her grandchildren: Lance, Bill, Colleen, and Christy
Johnson all of Omaha, NE and a few nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gilmore, son Donald, four
sisters, and two brothers.
