Obituary
Oren Buryl Thorson, 87, of Kanawha passed away Thursday, August 10, 2000 at the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha, Iowa.
"Buryl", the son of Nels and Nettie (Foster) Thorson was born December 5, 1912 at Kanawha. He attended Kanawha Community School where he graduated in 1931.
Buryl was united in marriage to Helen Varo in 1935 at Elmore, Minnesota. His life was centered around working with electricity and telephones. He worked for Norway Telephone Company for 35 years, serving as manager for 21 of those years. Buryl was board president from 1968 - 1978 and was given an honorary membership.
Buryl was bapitzed and confirmed at the Kanawha Lutheran Church. He enjoyed many hobbies such as hunting, fishing , working with wood, and making model airplanes.
Buryl is survived by his wife, Helen of Kanawha, one son Gary and his wife, Carmin of Garner; three grandchildren: Todd and his wife, Jill of Lake Mills, Tara of Plymouth, Minnesota and Time and his wife, Erica of Cedar Falls; one great-granddaughter Makenzie of Lake Mills.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
