Obituary


Patricia Spangler, 83, of Britt passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the Kanawha Community Home.

Funeral Mass for Pat will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 139 3rd Street South East in Britt with Father Paul Lippstock officiating.  Burial will be at a later date.

Visitation for Pat will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 15, 2015 with a Scriptural Wake service beginning at 4:30 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Patricia Lea (Pierce) Spangler was born April 28, 1931 to Byron and Flossie (Norman) Pierce at Hampton, Iowa.  Pat grew up in the Clear Lake area and graduated from Clear Lake High School.

Pat was united in marriage to Paul Spangler on April 24, 1954 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake.  Pat and Paul moved to Britt in 1957 and made their home there for over 50 years.

During her working years at the Clear Lake Telephone Company, Winnebago Industries and Westview Care Center, Pat formed many treasured friendships.  Later Pat returned to college and became a nursing home administrator for Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Pat was a very loving and caring wife and mother.  The times that meant the most to her were gatherings with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Pat took pleasure in cooking and baking, treating many to her homemade caramel rolls, breads and cakes.  She loved spending time in her garden, watching birds, and just enjoying the sun.

Pat will be remembered as a selfless person, willing to go above and beyond for all, and accepting of everyone.  Pat was a wonderful friend to have.

Pat was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt, member of Catholic Daughters of America, and the Britt American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.

Pat is survived by her children, Margaret (Mark) Northrup of Saint Ansgar, Lisa (Paul) Smidt of Kanawha, David (Julie) Spangler of Kanawha, Caroline (Reggie) Andersen of Forest City, and Stephanie (Chris) Specht of Yankton, South Dakota; her grandchildren, Danielle (Kenny) Grimm, Nick Herman and his fiancé Tayla, Doug Smidt and his special friend Teresa, Jody (Matt) Clemens, Renee (Keith) Nelson, Rebecca (Zac) McCune, Melinda (David) Boege, Matt Spangler and special friend Jessica, Brian Andersen, Joe Andersen, Taylor Specht, and Whitney Specht; 12 great-grandchildren; life long best friend, JoAnn Watkins; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul in 2004, and her brother Dean Pierce.
