Paul B. Larson

Paul B. Larson, 74 of Clarion passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Visitation for Paul Larson will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion.

Memorial services will be private.

Paul Bernard Larson was born August 18, 1940 in Eagle Grove.  He attended and graduated from Eagle Grove High School with the Class of 1959.

Upon graduation, Paul enlisted in the Army National Guard, and served at the Eagle Grove post until 1968.

Paul was united in marriage to Maxine Hahn on July 8, 1962 in Eagle Grove.  To this union, three children were born.  Paul and Maxine made their home in Eagle Grove where Paul had worked at the Fareway store since high school.  He eventually became an assistant manager and later left Fareway in 1967 to begin working for Iowa Public Service as a gas and electric service man.  Paul retired from Mid-American Energy in 2002.

During his career with Mid-American, Paul started Larson Lawn Care, working until last Monday, November 17.  He was known as a hard worker and was generous with his time and talents, donating yard work to customers who had fallen on hard times.

Paul loved playing golf and attending the NCAA Wrestling National Championships with a group of his friends for several years in various cities around the country.  He enjoyed carpentry work, from fine woodworking to hanging and finishing sheetrock.

Paul was a notorious prankster and kidder.  He was lovingly referred to as “The Maytag Man” because he was always agitating somebody.  Paul proudly served as a volunteer fire fighter in Clarion for 24 years, and continued helping with fire department fundraisers after retiring.

Paul is survived by his wife Maxine of Clarion; children Todd (Tammy) Larson and their children Madison and McKenzie of Ankeny, Chris Larson and his children Gable and Anika of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Jennifer (Chad) Stutzman and their children Allyson and Samuel of Altoona.

Paul was preceded in death by his mother, his grandparents, and one uncle.
