Obituary


Paul E. Christensen, age 80, of Belmond passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, at the Iowa Specialty Hospital of Belmond.

Funeral services for Paul E. Christensen will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. Pastor Leila Blackburn will officiate. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps Funeral Honors Detachment.
Paul Edward, son of Carl and Madge Loobey Christensen, was born on Jan. 12, 1935, in Eagle Grove. Paul grew up in and attended school in Eagle Grove for a few years. He graduated high school from Woden in 1953. Paul joined the military immediately after graduation.
Paul was united in marriage to Etta Ann Leonard. The couple was blessed with two children, Paul (Andy) and Paula. Paul continued to serve in the United States Marine Corps.
The United States Marine Corps was of the ultimate importance to Paul. He served his country proudly, specifically tours in Vietnam. Paul retired from a military career to become a police officer. He was a member of the Belmond Police Department. Etta passed away in 1991.
Paul was united in marriage to Alice June (Christensen) Leach on Dec. 9, 1995 at the Methodist Church in Dows. The couple made their home in Belmond and lived a happy married life of 20 years. Paul loved to play bingo and read, specifically car and science magazines. He enjoyed playing cards, watching baseball games, and traveling. Paul is a member of Belmond VFW, where he served as commander. He is also a committed member of the Belmond Honor Guard.
Paul is survived by his wife, Alice; four children: Paula Powell, Paulette Bridges (Tom Crane), Carolyn Meinke, and Dennis Leach; eight grandchildren: Michael, Andrew, Michelle, Michael, Christopher, Scott, Lindsey and Keaton; three great-grandchildren: Payton, Brady and Ada; sister-in-law Delores Christensen; Alice's extended family and numerous relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by mother Madge and father Carl; wife Etta; son Paul (Andy); son-in-laws Robert Bridges and Steven Meinke.
