Obituary


Paul Osby, age 74 years, 3 month, 16 days, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Kanawha, died peacefully at Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 28, 2008.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2nd Street, in Kanawha. Burial will take place at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.   Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008 from 11:30 until the time of service at the funeral home.

Paul was born July 12, 1934, in Kanawha, Iowa to Edmund and Margaret Osby (Williamson). He grew up in Kanawha, Iowa and attended Kanawha Schools. He moved to Mason City, Iowa at age 18 and worked for Mason City Brick and Tile.  On December 14, 1956, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in Germany, Korea and Lebanon. He was honorably discharged on December 13, 1958.

Paul worked many jobs throughout the years at White Farm, John Deere and Libby-Owens-Ford Glass. At the time of his retirement he had been a Lieutenant (Security Officer) and Area Manager for Pinkerton Security Service for 13 years.

Paul met his wife Beverly Springer in Mason City, Iowa and they were married on September 21, 1963. From this union 2 daughters were born. Bev passed away on March 25, 1995. Paul moved to Omaha in 1996 to be close to his daughters. He had courageously fought Alzheimer’s disease, COPD and Diabetes. Paul lived with his daughter Vicki from 2007 until he entered Midlands Living Center in August of 2008.

Paul was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City, Iowa, Mason City VFW and a former member of Moose Lodge in Mason City, Iowa.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Vicki Osby (Don), Penny (John) Stinehart, grandsons: Donovon Isaacson, Tyler Williams; granddaughter Ashley Osby all of Council Bluffs; granddaughter Christina Stinehart of Le Grand, Oregon; adopted daughters: Linda Calvert of Mason City and Bev Hallman of Atlantic, Iowa; sisters: Lois (Don) Goeman of Belmond, Iowa, Marlys (Larry) Wicks of Kanawha, Iowa; brother Gene Osby of Urbandale, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, friends; and his beloved cat Snoball.

Paul was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, his wife Beverly, brother Gordon Osby, adopted brother Charles Wise, adopted parents Bernard and Mary LudeKing, stepfather Clearance Eliason, and his precious cat Sam.
