Obituary


Phyllis J. (Hahn) Lewis, 90, of Clarion, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center.

Private family graveside service will be held at Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Gateway Hospice, the Marys and Marthas, or the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield.

Phyllis Jean Hahn was born March 31, 1930, at Galt, Iowa, the second child of Casper M. and Edith M. (Waddell) Hahn. She attended country schools in Lincoln and Dayton Township and graduated from Clarion High School in 1947.

On June 1, 1947, Phyllis married Andrew Dale Olson at the home of her parents. They farmed in the Galt, Rowan and Clarion vicinity. She was very active in the farming and cattle operation. They were the parents of two children, Larry Dale and Diane Lois. Phyllis and Dale were divorced in 1975.

Phyllis moved to Clarion and worked at Cornelia Furniture for three years, then started at Evans Furniture in 1978, semi-retiring in 1990, and worked part-time until her retirement in 2011. She loved her job and the people she worked with all those years.

On October 18, 1990, Phyllis married Wilson Eugene (Louie) Lewis at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They wintered in Apache Junction, Arizona, for 14 years and were very active in their park activities. As a couple, they loved to travel and dance.

Phyllis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion for 62 years and taught Sunday School and Bible School at the Congregational Church when the family lived in Rowan. She became a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield in 2018. Phyllis was also a 4-H leader in Lake Township for a few years. She loved music and being with friends and family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Louie on March 8, 2020, her parents, grandparents, brother and sister-in-law Verlyn Hahn and Pat Phillips, sister Lois Harris, son-in-law Redge Berg, great-granddaughter Emma Olson, and step great-grandson Will Lewis.

Survivors include her son Larry (Melody) Olson of Clarion; her daughter Diane Berg of Spencer; grandsons Chad Olson of Clarion and Kevin (Hayley) Olson of Clarion; granddaughters Stacy Stark of Ames and Cortney Olson of Clarion; nine great-grandchildren; step-sons Ernest (Pam) Lewis of Goldfield and Duane Lewis of Clarion; step-daughter Nancy (Dan) Foster of Madison, Alabama; step-grandsons Aaron (Becky) Lewis of Algona, Matt (Katie) Lewis of Goldfield, and Adam (Ashley) Lewis of Goldfield; step-granddaughters Christine (Wes) McKay of Madison, Alabama, and Bethany Foster of Madison, Alabama; nine step-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends, including special friend Marlene Brown.
