Obituary


Richard Duane Thompson, 67, of rural Kanawha, Iowa, died of cancer December 7, 1992, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.

Richard Duane Thompson was born May 19, 1925, to Melvin and Ninnette (Anderson) Thompson.

Richard was baptized and confirmed as a member of Kanawha Lutheran Church.  He attended rural Kanawha schools, graduating from Kanawha High School in 1943.  Following graduation, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served two years in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

In 1947 he was united in marriage to Florence Norby.  To that marriage four children were born: Douglas, Corrine, Ramona, and Kristine.

Richard spent his adult life farming the family farm three miles east of Kanawha on the south shore of West Twin Lake.  He served on many local and county boards. He was most active with the Corn Growers - serving on the Iowa Corn Growers Association and the National Corn Growers Association.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Florence and children: a son Douglas, his wife Barbara and children Adam and Aaron of Kanawha, Iowa; a daughter Corrine (Connie), her husband Craig Watne and children Jermey, Michelle, Andrea and Rachel of Belmond, Iowa; a daughter Ramona and her husband Mark Peller of Gilbert, Arizona; a daughter Kristine, her husband Brian Scott and son Alex of West Des Moines, Iowa; a sister Nadine and her husband Jay Howlett of Britt, Iowa.
