Obituary


Richard “Dick” Newbrough, 90 of Britt passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital in Ely, Minnesota.

A memorial service for Dick Newbrough will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Britt with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating.  Inurnment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt at a later date.

Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the church.

Richard “Dick” Dale Newbrough, the son of Ernest and Alice (Moeckley) Newbrough, was born on January 8, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa.  He was educated in the Polk City/Alleman area and graduated from Alleman High School.

After graduating, Dick rented farmland in the Alleman area and began his life of farming.   On March 21, 1943, he was united in marriage to LaVonne Anderson, from Sheldahl, Iowa, and continued farming.

The couple moved to Britt in 1949 where Dick farmed with his father.  They farmed west of Britt before moving into Britt in the fall of 1981.  Dick continued farming with his son until 2000.

Dick was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Britt.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; celebrating special occasions, going out to eat, traveling and being in Northern Minnesota.  Dick especially loved the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dick is survived by his children:  Cheryle (Richard) Harmon of Huxley and Dan (Mary) Newbrough of Britt; grandchildren:  Amber Masteller, Angie (Ryan) O’Brien and Haley (John) Carden; great-grandchildren:  Gabe and Lily O’Brien and Tristan and Jacques Carden; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife LaVonne; grandson Jason Newbrough; brother Ronald; and sister Virginia Weeks.
