Obituary


Richard Gardner, 85, of Clarion passed away Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service for Richard Gardner will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the United Presbyterian Church, 219 1st Street Northwest, in Clarion with Pastor Bill Kem officiating. 

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Richard Clair, son of Fay and Gladys (Stacy) Gardner, was born on March 13, 1932 in Youngstown, Ohio. Dick and his family moved to Clarion, where he attended school. In June of 1951, Dick joined the Army. He served a year in Germany.

On January 20, 1953, Dick was united in marriage to Sharon Bridges in Minneapolis. The couple was blessed with three children: Denice, Kevin, and Mike. Dick worked at Hagie Manufacturing in the research and development department for almost 40 years before he retired. After retirement, Dick and Sharon moved to Arkansas for ten years. Following their time in Arkansas, they moved back to Clarion and spent the winters in Texas. In March of 2015, they sold their house in Texas and remained in Clarion.

Dick loved to fish along with keeping busy with wood working and wood carving projects. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Dick is survived by his wife Sharon of Clarion; three children Denice (Patrick) Opheim of Clarion, Kevin (partner Joseph Saltzer) Gardner of Portland, Oregon, and Mike (Michelle) Gardner of Louisa, Virginia; four grandchildren Brandi (Quinton) of Corwith, Jarrett (Nina) of Tempe, Arizona, Tyler (Brittany) of Clarion and Chloe of Louisa, Virginia; five great-grandchildren Mercedes (Aaron), Elizabeth, Emma, Callie, Wyatt, and Piglet the dog; and one great-great grandchild Aaron Jr.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
