Obituary


Richard “Dick” Nail, 80, of Clarion passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 4, 2012.

A memorial service to celebrate Dick’s life will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 201 3rd Avenue NE, in Clarion with Pastor Don Morrison officiating.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 9:30–11:00 AM at the church before the memorial service.  Ewing Funeral Home in Clarion is assisting the family with services.

Richard “Dick” Glen Nail was born in Webster City, Iowa on August 7, 1931 to Charles and Gertrude (Matthews) Nail.  He graduated from Clarion High School in 1948.

Dick married Barbara Latch on August 31, 1950 at the Church of Christ in Clarion.  This union was blessed with 4 children.

Dick’s Farmers Cooperative employment spanned over 40 years beginning with the Cooperative at Renwick, Iowa.  He also managed Cooperatives at Rippey, Iowa and Winfield, Iowa before retiring in 1994.  Dick served on various committees and boards throughout his Cooperative career.

Dick is survived by his wife Barb, of 62 years, of Clarion; 3 children:  Steve (Lana [Gray]) Nail of Ankeny, Dennis Nail of Aurora, Colorado and Sandy (Eric) Gabrielson of Nevada, Iowa; son-in-law Gary Hague of Columbia, Missouri; 7 grandchildren:  Jill Hart, Heather Schmidt, Brad McAlister, Brian Nail, Ashli Hewitt, Jennifer LaCroix and Neil Hewitt; 11 great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers:  Wendell and Don Nail; and a daughter Theresa Hague.
