Richard Duane Elliott, age 77, of Clarion, Iowa, passed away peacefully after his courageous battle with cancer, at his home on June 6, 2025, surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion.
Richard was born on June 19, 1947, in Lehigh, Iowa, to Harold and Martha (Ford) Elliott, who raised him with love and hard work. He attended Webster City High School through 9th grade. Richard’s work ethic and dedication were evident throughout his long career. He worked at Peterson Construction for over 30 years and served as a maintenance supervisor at the Clarion Rehabilitation Center for 18 years.
On February 14, 1965, Richard married the love of his life, Eilene Hoveland, and together they shared 60 years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and unwavering commitment to one another. Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, leaving a legacy of deep affection and care within his family.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Eilene; son, Cody Elliott of Webster City; daughter, Kalene (Clay) Pohlman of Clarion; his brother, Jim Elliott of Webster City; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, all of whom were deeply loved by him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Gary Elliott, Harold Elliott, and Danny Elliott; his sister, Sherry Nerem; and his son, Rick Elliott.
After raising three children on Woolsey Street in Webster City, Richard and Eilene moved to Lake Cornelia in Clarion, Iowa. This is where he spent many days boating, fishing, and making memories with his family and friends. A man of many talents, Richard found joy in anything that allowed him to work with his hands. He had a particular love for the Iowa Hawkeyes, RC car racing, and golfing with his family and spending time together. He was an avid fan of classic westerns and enjoyed watching In the Heat of the Night with his children, often found relaxing with these shows after a long day. Above all, Richard was known for his contagious laugh, great sense of humor, a kind heart, generosity, and the strength of his character. Many will tell you there was never a dull moment in the Elliott household. He would do anything to help others, and his family lovingly referred to him as the "glue" that held them together. His presence will be profoundly missed, yet his spirit and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
