Obituary


Richard Smith, 66, of Clarion passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019 at his home in Clarion.

Memorial services for Rick Smith will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church, 201 3rd Avenue North East in Clarion, with Reverend Mike Gudka officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Richard Lee Smith, the son of Clarence and Beverly (Day) Smith, was born on July 20, 1952 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Rick graduated from Clarion High School with the class of 1970. He then enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1974. He then started his career at Evans Lumber, where he worked until 2006, followed by his career at Eagle Building Supply.

He was united in marriage to Pamela Fisher on August 16, 1975 in Clarion. To this union, two children were born. Family has always been important to Rick, from yearly vacations, teaching them to take the back roads, and his grandchildren being his greatest joy.

In his free time, Rick enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He recently started going to flea markets and collecting cistern pumps. He would always make time to help anyone who would need it while teasing them in the process.

Rick was a valuable member of the Clarion Fire Department being on the department since 1985, and being the treasurer for over 20 years.

Rick is survived by his wife Pamela Smith of Clarion; children Heather Frankl (fiancé Jeff Wolf) of St. Joseph, Iowa, and Peter (Heather) Smith of Clarion; nine grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; sisters Pat (Lynn) Barz of Dows and Janice Flurer of Clarion; brothers Edward (Gail) Smith of Humboldt, Gene Smith of Petersburg, Virginia, Bob (Melissa) Smith of Batesville, Arkansas, and Jim (Becky) Flurer of Clarion; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, daughter Allison, sister Deborah, and a brother Steven in infancy.
