Richard L. Peddicord, 80, of Belmond, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023
at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond.
His family will have a Celebration of Life on January 5, 2024.
Richard Lee Peddicord, the son of Greek and Alice (Sorenson) Barkema, was born
on the family farm in rural Kanawha. Richard attended school in Belmond.
After school, Richard worked at Central Soya before he opened up Rich's in
downtown Belmond. He met the love of his life Cecile during that time. The
couple was united in marriage on September 21, 1991 at the Little Brown Church
in Nashua. He later sold the bar to take over the family farm full time.
In his free time, Rich enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. He really enjoyed
anything that gave him the opportunity to talk and tell a story, which is why he
attended coffee at True Value almost daily with his friends. He also was proud
of his town and was always striving to improve it. Most of all, Rich cherished
the time he got to spend with his family especially his grandchildren and great
grandchildren who had him wrapped around their fingers.
He will be missed for his jokester attitude, his big gentle heart and of course
his storytelling. We would tell you one of his stories but there are just too
many to tell.
He is survived by his wife Cecile of Belmond; children Annette (Sam) Hargadine
of Columbia, Missouri, Tammy (Mike) Schimp of Hampton, Gina (Chris) Knudsen of
Grimes, Mitch Peddicord of Kansas City, Missouri and Angi (Wayne) Butt of
Cottage Grove, Minnesota; grandchildren Bryce (Nikki) Schimp of Woodbine, Joshua
(Diana) Butt of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Molly (Jacob) Marlin of St. Charles,
Luke Knudsen of Grimes and Katelyn Knudsen of Grimes; great-grandchildren Rhett,
McCoy, Noah and Blake.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
