Robert Raymond, son of Ray and Ella (Eddy) Rier, was born on January 5, 1938 in
Clarion. Bob grew up in Clarion and graduated from Clarion High School in 1956.
He learned carpentry skills from William English Construction while still in
high school and then completed architectural training from the Chicago Technical
College.
On November 3, 1957, Bob was united in marriage to Pauline Jorgensen and they
resided in Clarion. From this union three children were born, one whom died in
infancy. Bob worked at the Clarion Co-op and Lumberyard as assistant manager
from 1960-1964 and as manager until 1980. He then ran the UBC in Humboldt and
the Coast to Coast Store in Belmond. Before retirement, Bob and Pauline worked
together at the Wright County courthouse. Bob was always putting his carpentry
skills to use, either building or fixing something. He loved doing woodworking
projects for his children and grandchildren. Bob enjoyed coffee time at the
Pizza Ranch and going to the Clarmond Country Club to golf with his family and
friends. He was an active and lifelong member of the Clarion United Presbyterian
Church.
Bob loved and cherished his family. He was proud that his two sons and all of
his grandchildren graduated from the University of Iowa. He enjoyed tailgating
and attending many Hawkeye sporting events. Bob also loved spending time at the
lake and on the dock, enjoying a drink or two with everyone.
Bob is survived by his sons Kirk (Linda) Rier of Fort Myers, Florida and Kevin
(Renee) Rier of Mason City; grandchildren Alison (Austin) Thompson of Leawood,
Kansas, Matthew (Melissa) Rier of Santa Fe, New Mexico, AJ Rier of Nashville,
