Roger A. Southard, 56, of Clarion passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015 at his home
in Clarion.
Funeral services for Roger Southard will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 12,
2015 at the Clarion Church of Christ, 420 North Main Street in Clarion, with
Pastor Warren Curry officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery
in Clarion on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at
Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, and will continue one
hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Roger Alan Southard was born June 3, 1959 to Edward and Della (McGrath) Southard
in Clarion. He attended Clarion High School, graduating with the Class of 1977.
Following high school, Roger enlisted in the United States Army, having served
11 years, followed by 5 years with the Army National Guard.
Roger was united in marriage to Debra Long on June 15, 1977 at the Clarion
Church of Christ. The couple made their home in Clarion and in various
communities around the world while Roger was in the service. The couple
divorced in 1985, but have remained friends since.
Roger enjoyed reading history books and watching movies, visiting friends and
lending a helping hand when needed. Roger spent many hours with his late dog
Bear. His other hobbies included riding his four wheeler, playing cards on
Sunday afternoons and making go-carts out of old mowers for his grandkids and
friends to ride out on the farm.
Roger enjoyed having coffee with the group from Casey's in the morning and
taking part in the Wednesday night therapy sessions with the group at Sebby's.
Roger is survived by his daughter Jessica (Patrick) Oppman and children Tyler,
Pauline, Devon and Gabrielle of Clarion, daughter Kristin (Clayton) Christensen
and children Jasmyn and Emerson of Spencer, and son Austin Linn of Estherville;
father Edward (Helen) Southard of Clarion; former wife Debra Stewart and her son
Joshua (Courtney) Stewart and their children Sharisse, Jallen, Antonio and Zoie
of Clarion; brother Glen (Jeanette) Southard and their children Natalie and
William of Park City, Utah; brother-in-law Ken (Sung) Crow and children Shylo,
Roxanne, Dan and Crystal; step-sisters Teresa Wilson and Lori Pohlman and
step-brother Jim Wilson along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives
and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his mother Della Southard; grandparents Dorsey
and Gladys Southard and Homer and Ullo McGrath; and sisters Alicia Southard Crow
and Kathleen Southard in infancy.
