A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the Rowan Community Center, 101 Main Street in Rowan. Private family burial will take place at a later date in the Belmond Cemetery.

Roger Allen, son of Carl and Ivadel (Johnson) Mumford, was born on July 9, 1946 in Rolfe. He grew up in the Rolfe area and attended country school near Rolfe. Roger lived there until his family moved to Royalton, Minnesota. In 1956, his family moved back to Rolfe. Roger also lived in Pocahontas and Laurens. While living in Laurens, Roger was faithful in attending church services at the Bethany Lutheran Church.

Roger was a hard worker. In his younger years, he worked on a farm for Bill and Terry Spanier. He later worked for the City of Hampton, United Hydrolics and Northup King (now Syngenta) in Hampton and Belmond, and most recently Hoelscher Ag in Alden building grain bins.

In 1977, Roger met Darlene Mallow. The couple had two children together, daughter Susan in 1978 and son Tony in 1980.

Roger loved playing games – playing a game of Aggravation or Skipbo with family or Solitare while waiting at the doctor’s office. He carried a deck of cards with him no matter where he went. He enjoyed traveling throughout the state of Iowa to visit friends and attending fairs or concerts, usually always buying a t-shirt or CD.

Roger is survived by his daughter Susan (Sean) Fogarty of Rowan and son Tony Mumford of Emmetsburg; step-sons Roger Mallow of Glenwood and Mark (Julie) Mallow of Waterloo; grandson Dominic Fogarty of Rowan; four step-grandchildren  John Fogarty, Chris Fogarty, Josh Halfbass and Samantha Mallow; five great-grandchildren; sister Violet Lovig of Laurens; uncle Ron Johnson; and many other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Darlene; infant child in 1979; step-son Edwin Mallow; six siblings Nancy Wilson, Harold Mumford, Karoline Wiseman, Lester Mumford, Earl Mumford, and Ruth Hamer; and brother-in-law Artie Lovig.
