Obituary


Roger E. Charlson, 92, of Fort Dodge died May 1st, 2014 at Clarion Wellness and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 7th at 10:30am at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, West of Belmond. Pastor James Harbaugh presiding. A luncheon will be provided and burial following at Fairview Cemetery, Dows.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening 5-7pm at Dugger Funeral Home, 300 Lee Street in Dows.

Roger is survived by his children Steven Charlson of Des Moines, Anne (Matthew) Paul of West Des Moines, Carolyn Ferry of Eagle Grove, and Susan Charlson of Eagle Grove. 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer & Beatrice (Lundburg) Charlson and brothers John Charlson and James Charlson.

Roger was born October 20th, 1921 in Goldfield, Iowa. The family moved to Dows in 1925 and he attended Dows Public School. He earned an Associate Degree from Waldorf College, Forest City and a Bachelors Degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. As a young adult he worked for his father in the clothing business in Dows and served several years as Wright County Auditor in Clarion. He later worked for the Employment Security Commission first in Waterloo, then in Fort Dodge where he retired. He married Millus Eastman in Waterloo and they were later divorced. Roger was a Marine Corps Veteran of World War II and a member of Dows American Legion and the Fort Dodge Marine Corps League.
