Obituary


Ronald Assink, 64, of Kanawha, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2009 at his home in Kanawha.

Funeral services for Ronald Assink will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, Kanawha with Pastor Steve Schulz and Pastor Ron McKee officiating. 

Visitation for will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2009 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East Second Street, in Kanawha and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Ronald Lee Assink, the son of George and Vivian (Oxley) Assink, was born October 1, 1944 in Clarion, Iowa. He grew up in the Kanawha area and graduated from Kanawha High School. Following his high school graduation Ron attended Dordt College and Sheboygan Technical School.

Ron was united in marriage with Mina Douma on August 14, 1964 at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Ripon, California. This union was blessed with two daughters. The family made their home in Modesto, California for many years.

Ron was employed as a structural steel salesman for 35 years. The family moved back to Kanawha in 2006 where Ron was employed in insurance sales.

Ron enjoyed searching for and working with rocks. In 1999 he realized his dream of owning his first rock shop.

Ron received The Lord Jesus Christ into his life in 1973. He became very involved in his church, serving as head usher for a 3000-member church in California. He was also a Bible Study leader and children’s Sunday school teacher.

Ron is survived by his wife Mina; daughter Suzette of Kanawha; stepmother, Rosemary Assink of Kanawha; two brothers: David and Gary, along with numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; George and Vivian Assink; daughter Alissa Jane; and two brothers: Duane and Rodney.
