Obituary


Rose A. Gerdes, 78, of Britt passed away Monday, March 10, 2008 at her home in Britt.

Funeral services for Rose Gerdes will be held Friday, March 14, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt with Rev. Brian Dellaert officiating. Burial will be in Bingham Township Cemetery near Woden at 3:00 p.m.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 13, 2008 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt and one hour prior to services at the church.

Rose Agatha Studer was born November 5, 1929, daughter of Alphonse and Isabelle (Haverly) Studer in Wesley, Iowa. Rose attended school in Wesley graduating from Wesley High School.

Rose married Ernest (Wink) Gerdes on December 28, 1949 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wesley. Rose and Wink lived all of their married life in Woden, Iowa. They had six sons, Roger, Robert, David, Mark, Richard and Thomas. Rose worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City, owned and operated Rose’s Retail and Resale in Woden and then worked at Goodnature’s in Garner.

Rose was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and sang with the Sweet Adeline’s for a number of years. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Rose is survived by Roger and Rosie Gerdes of Pleasant Hope, Missouri, Bob and Marcia Gerdes of Woden, Dave and Cyndi Gerdes of Kanawha, daughter-in-law Paula Gerdes of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and Rick Gerdes of Dubuque, Iowa. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jamie (Lei) Kaauamo and Keikai; Nick (Lindsey) Gerdes and Kaleb; Angie Gerdes; Rob (Angie) Gerdes Taylor and Jenna; Jill (Alex) Schutjer and Drew and Sam; Chad (Kim) Gerdes and Karissa and Cade; Jesse (Courtney) Gerdes and Drew; Lucas, Logan and Grace; Jason (Rhonda) Gerdes and Austin and Landon and Matt Gerdes. Also survived by sisters: Mae (Dick) Haiden and Julie Jarvis; and brother, Gerald Studer. Sisters-in-law Betty (Don) May, Leota Gerdes and Barbara Shipman and many nieces and nephews.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wink, sons Thomas at birth and Mark in 2004 and daughter-in-law Janet Gerdes in 1991. Sisters Phyllis Kelch, Elaine Downs, Rita Young. Brothers-in-law George Kelch, Ed Downs, Leo Young and Ralph Jarvis.
