Obituary


Rose R. Hughes, 69, of Britt, Iowa passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2002, at the family home in Britt, Iowa.

Rose, the daughter of Frank G. and Lillian (Hejlik) Wellik, was born on September 7, 1933 near Duncan.  Rose attended country school and graduated from Britt High School.  She was united in marriage with Thomas G. Hughes on November 8, 1954 at Duncan.  The couple has since made their home in Britt.  Rose received many awards for her outstanding sales achievements as an Avon Lady for the past 20 years.  The joys of her life were playing tea with her precious granddaughters, her flower garden, embroidering dishtowels and her coffee at the round table at the Hobo House.

Rose was a member of the Catholic Workman Branch #51, St. Patrick's Rosary Guild and the Hancock County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Rose is survived by her husband Tom of Britt; three daughters: Becky of Connecticut, Mary Jo and Linda of Britt, two sons: Todd and wife Jennifer of Thompson, and Jeff of Britt, three granddaughters: Bailey, Lucy, and Ella; two sisters: Marie Loebig of Mason City, Marcella Doughan of Algona, a brother Frank E. Wellik and his wife Shirley of Britt, a sister-in-law Arlene Wellik of Woden, many nieces and nephews and lots of Bohemians and her Hobo family where she was known as "Railroad Rose".

She was preceded in death be her parents, a sister Evelyn Holck, a brother Paul Wellik, three brothers-in-law: Lloyd Holck, Dale Doughan, and John F. Loebig.
