Obituary


Ross C. Stanbery, 83, of Clarion, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 5, 2004, at USA Health Care Center in Clarion, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion with Father David Beckman officiating.  Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 8, 2004, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a scripture service at 6:30 PM at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street in Clarion, with a scripture service at 6:30, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Ross Claire Stanbery, son of Harry and Ruth (Campbell) Stanbery was born May 30, 1920 in Clarion. He spent his entire life here and dedicated much of his life’s work to serving his community and fellow residents. He served as a Justice of the Peace in the 1950’s through 1970’s time frame. He also owned a T.V. repair business that he operated from his home on East Central Avenue in Clarion. Ross was a Wright County landowner and frequented the local elevators to share some of his humor with his fellow farmers. He is a past Grand Marshall of Clarion’s summer festival. Ross was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion.

Ross was an honorary member of the American Legion and volunteered countless hours at the cemeteries constructing headstones for veterans. He is well known for stone his architecture that still adorns the entryways to the cemeteries.

Ross was also an avid photographer and sports fan. He took thousands of wrestling photos and distributed them throughout the state of Iowa at no charge to the athletes or coaches. He has earned numerous awards for his commitment to the sport of wrestling.

Ross will be remembered for his generosity to the community and his devotion to helping others, especially young athletes who needed a guiding hand.

Ross is survived by one niece, Rebecca Black of Fort Worth, Texas.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bill and one sister, Harriet.
