Obituary


Ruby Boller, 95, of Belmond passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Funeral services for Ruby Boller will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 304 3rd Avenue Northeast in Belmond, with Pastor Dawn Pederson officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation for Ruby Boller will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 AM prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Ruby Faye, daughter of Gabriel and Anna (Peterson) Gabrielson, was born on February 23, 1922 in Belmond and grew up on the family farm north of Belmond. Ruby attended 1st – 8th grade at Belmond Township #5 Country School and graduated from Belmond High School in 1939.

After graduation, Ruby worked at the Belmond Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. On August 9, 1942, Ruby was married to Kenneth Boller. The couple moved to Camp Walters for 2 years and then to Camp Blanding in Florida while Kenny was in the service. After World War II, the couple moved to Goodell and raised three children.

For 17 years, Ruby was a soil tester at the Belmond Chemical Plant. She later worked at We 3 Markets as the produce manager and also sold Avon. Ruby finished her working career in Goodell as the postmaster at the post office. Ruby retired in 1996 and moved to Belmond.

Ruby was active in the Goodell Women’s Auxiliary for 71 years. Ruby enjoyed gardening, cooking, and cheering for the Hawkeyes, Twins, and Vikings. Her family was very important to her and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Ruby is survived by her three children: Debra (Michael) Shannon of Eagan, MN, Krista (Craig) Vander Linden of Sheldon, IA, and Nicholas (Faythe) Boller of Belmond; six grandchildren: Danielle (Tony) Pahula of Minneapolis, MN, Kyle Shannon of Minneapolis, MN, Reece (Mandi) Boller of Belmond, Nicole (Brittany) Boller of Waterloo, Molly Vander Linden of Spencer, and Andy (Kendra) Vander Linden of St. Peter, MN; five great-grandchildren: Joey Pahula, Gabriel Boller, Maya Boller, Paige Vander Linden, and Ruby Vander Linden; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Gabriel and Anna Gabrielson; husband Kenneth Boller; five brothers: Tolford, Elmer, Gerhard, Norman, and Lester; and four sisters: Elizabeth, Burley, Beulah, and Ruth.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gateway Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church in Ruby Boller’s name.
