Obituary


Russell Sylvin Sorenson, 79, passed away Sunday, September 26, 1999 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Russell, the son of Edmund and Emilie (Mortensen) Sorenson, was born April 21, 1920 on the family farm near Crystal Lake.  He attended school in the Crystal Lake area and graduated from Crystal Lake High School.  Russel was united in marriage with Marjorie Bell on July 10, 1945 at Thompson.  He farmed and lived on the family farm most of his life.  Russell was later employed at Winnebago Industries in Forest City.

Russell enjoyed his family, fishing, traveling, woodworking, and reading.  Russell was baptized and lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake.  He served on the Crystal Lake Creamery Board for a number of years.

Russell is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Britt; five children: Janet Federer and her husband, James of Cedar Rapids; Linda Barnes and her husband, Dennis of Britt; Richard Sorenson and his wife, Carol of Riverton, Wyoming; Marcia Gerdes and her husband, Robert of Woden; Diane Schulz and her husband, Don of Hudson; 12 grandchildren: Teresa, Erik, and Joel Federer; Jason and Jermey Barnes; Joshua and Matthew Sorenson; ANgela Gerdes, Robert Gerdes, Jr. and his wife, Angela, and Jill Gerdes; JoDee and Megan Schulz; step-mother, Mildred Sorenson of Crystal Lake; sisters: Lois Otis of Forest City; Doryce Hanna and her husband, Bruce of Woden; Dorothy Brown and her husband, Ronald of Woden; Elizabeth Barnum and her husband Edward of Blaine, Minnesota; brothers-in-law Herbert Schubert of Garner; LaVern Holtorf and his wife, Jane of Ankeny; sister-in-law Genevieve Sorenson of Forest City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Ruth Schubert and Marvella Holtorf; brothers: Harlan Sorenson and Calvin Sorenson; sisters-in-law: Mavis Sorenson and Geraldine Sorenson; brothers-in-law: Mervin Otis and Harold Swalve.
