Obituary


Ruth C. Larson, 98, passed away Sunday, April 23, 1995, at the Kanawha Community Care Center.

Ruth, the oldest daughter of eight was born to Joseph and Mary (Olsen) Richardson, on January 9, 1897 at Holmes, Iowa.  Ruth attended Drake University and received a degree in Music and Fine Arts.  She also went to summer school at ISU and a summer at Jewell Lutheran College.  She taught school at Holmes, Iowa.  She was united in marriage to Joseph L. Larson on March 3, 1917, at her parents home.  Joe and Ruth enjoyed traveling and visited 48 of the 50 states, Canada and Mexico.  They also had a three month tour in Europe, visisting many countries where they also spent in time visiting their cousins in Norway.  Ruth was an active member in the St. Olaf Church in Belmond for many years.  She was also a member at the First Lutheran Church in Clarion.  She sang in church choirs for 50 years.  Ruth was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church and the Priscilla Circle.

Survivors include her two sons: James R. Larson of Kanawha, Iowa; Lowell J. Larson and his wife, Elenora of New Hampton, Iowa; four daughters: Marion Ernst and her husband, Frank of Palmer, Iowa, JoAnn Betten and her husband, Kerny of New Hamption, Iowa, Doris Shear of Kanawha, Iowa, Clarice Yarger of San Diego, California; twenty-eight grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mildred Krips of Pocahontas, Iowa and Evelyn Dewitt of Bartow, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, three sisters, four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
