Ruth V. (Roberts) Dougherty, 101, of Sanford, Florida and formerly of Clarion,
passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021 in Florida.
Funeral services for Ruth Dougherty will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday,
September 18, 2021 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion,
with Pastor Warren Curry officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen
Cemetery in Clarion with military honors.
Ruth Virginia (Roberts) Dougherty was born on September 26, 1919, in Des Moines,
Iowa. She grew up in Clarion, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Grace Roberts.
She graduated from Clarion High school with the Class of 1937. Following high
school she attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and then
returned to Clarion where she was employed by the Agricultural Adjustment
Administration for over five years. During WWII she served in the U.S. Navy as a
WAVE, and worked at the Bureau of Personnel in Washington, D.C. She married
Loren Dougherty, who was in the Navy, and they were stationed at various bases
on the east coast and in the midwest. After settling in Sanford, she was
employed as a secretary at Pine Crest Elementary School for twenty years.
She is survived by daughters Janet Dougherty (Mick Hutton) of Sanford, Florida
and Anne Lucas-Bergeron (Marcel Bergeron) of DeLand, Florida, and grandsons John
Stuart (Diane) of Helena, Montana, Matthew Lucas (Taylor) of Arvada, Colorado,
and Phillip Lucas of Altamonte Springs, Florida.
