Obituary


Sadie Lila Beatrice Clark, 97, passed away October 28, 1993 at the Clarion Health Care Center in Clarion, Iowa.

Sadie, the daughter of Hogan and Bertha (Nelson) Mikelson, was born February 20, 1896 in Cabrey, Illinois.  When she was a baby, she moved with her parents to a farm near Clarion.  She attended the country school northwest of Clarion which is now a historical site in Clarion.  She was present in the building when the four-leaf clover was chosen as the 4-H emblem.  She was confirmed in the Christian Faith in the St. Olaf Church northwest of Belmond.  Sadie graduated from Clarion High School.

Sadie was united in marriage with Charles Albert Clark, on December 23, 1918, in Clarion, Iowa; while Albert was serving in the Navy during World War I.  Following the war, they farmed near Clarion.  In 1934 they moved to a farm in the Kanawha area.  The couple retired in Kanawha in 1962.

Sadie was a member of the Kanawha United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Kanawha American Legion Auxiliary.  Sadie loved gardening and was awarded the traveling trophy of the Kanawha Woman's Club Flower show to keep because she had won it the most times.

She is survived by her children: Ruth and her husband, Derrel Durst of Paullina, Iowa, Martin and his wife, La Rue of Dyersville, Iowa, Beth and her husband, Norman Cheville of Ames, Iowa, one sister, Lila Witzel of Alliance, Ohio; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Sadie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Albert on July 6, 1983, one son, two sisters, three brothers, and a grandson.
