Sandra Hudson, 83, of Britt, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022 at the
Kanawha Community Home.
Memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 19, 2023 at
Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
Sandra Kay (Johnson) Hudson was born November 17, 1939 in Omaha, Nebraska to
Marshall Howard Johnson and Marjorie Bertha (Vallier) Johnson. She graduated
from North High School in Omaha, NE.
Sandi met Bill Hudson in Omaha while he was serving in the Navy. They married on
November 30, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Horton, Kansas. She worked for
Northwestern Bell Telephone Company while in high school and continued working
for two years after high school. When Bill attended Peru Teacher's College,
Sandi worked at the college, and in the summer at the credit bureau in Omaha,
and at the Meter Plant in Nebraska City, NE, until he graduated. While Bill
attended graduate school Sandi worked at Richman Gordman Department store for
two years.
Bill and Sandi, along with their two sons Mike and Mark, moved to Britt, IA in
1971 where Bill had taken a teaching job and started the girls' basketball,
track, and softball programs, and later served as Athletic Director. Throughout
Bill's career and the boys' school years, Sandi supported her husband and sons
by being present in the stands in countless home and away games.
Sandi worked for Winnebago Industries for eight years. Her desire to work with
children led her to the North Iowa Area Education System, where she worked with
preschool disabled children. She worked in this capacity for eight years until
her own disability caused her to step down.
A few years after Bill retired from teaching, Bill and Sandi spent the winter at
Leisure World Park in Weslaco, Texas, and did so for about fifteen years. During
their time at Leisure World they traveled to Mexico and across Texas, often
times with their son Mark and his family who lived in Fort Worth.
Sandi was always the first in line to aid her family in any way possible. She
wanted to make sure her loved ones were well cared for. She made time for her
favorite pastime, bridge, or any other card game. Sandi and Bill made many
special friends in Britt and adored the community.
Sandi is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Don Johnson of Omaha, NE,
and her beloved husband Bill.
Sandi is survived by her two sons Michael (Teresa) Hudson of Kanawha, IA, and
Mark (Pam) Hudson of Fort Worth, TX; her sister JoAnn (Jim) Dietrich of Omaha,
NE; grandchildren: April Smith, Andrew Hudson, Kaylea Hudson, Bryant (Joelle)
