Sandra Jeanne Hanson Schipull, daughter of Charles Henry “Chub” Hanson and Frances Marie Bloomfield Hanson was born in Clarion on February 6, 1942. She graduated from Clarion High School in 1960. She spent most of her youth growing up in the restaurant business where she worked for her parents at Chub’s Drive In.  Sandy held the position of Worthy Advisor in Rainbow during her senior year of high school.

Sandy attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls for a semester before returning to Clarion to work at First National Bank. She spent one summer working at Lake Mancos Dude Ranch in Colorado. She loved her time at the ranch and spoke fondly of it. She would tell stories of Johnny Carson’s visit while she worked there.

On March 1, 1964, Sandy was united in marriage to Duane Schipull. They lived on the family farm in Goldfield, Iowa and raised three children. Sandy felt it was always important to be at home with the children while they were growing up. She began working for Nelson Petroleum as a bookkeeper once the children were in school. She then began bookkeeping for L & L Services in Goldfield. Sandy spent 25 years as the City Clerk for Goldfield.

Sandy was involved in many activities. She was a member of the Goldfield United Methodist Church where she used her talents to lead Sunday School classes, VBS, Treasurer and many other activities with the UMW. She trusted Christ as her Savior in the sixth grade. Sandy’s faith was important to her and helped her through many challenging times in her life. One of her favorite sayings was “This too shall pass”. Sandy was a member of Bayview Club, the Goldfield Women’s Club, Blue Bird Leader and served as Treasurer for Crossroads Ministries for many years. Down Memory Lane was a project she loved. She worked many hours on the community improvement project.

Despite having many fires going Mom always made time for her kid’s activities. Whether it was sports, music, band or other interests, she was there to haul kids around and cheer them on. Her house was always open and she was like a second mom to many of her children’s friends. Sandy was a talented organist and played by ear. She loved seeing Cardinals and Hummingbirds and had an appreciation for God’s creation.

Sandy went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2018. Sandy is survived by her three children Dana ( Lee ) Halvorson of Northwood, Iowa, Greg Schipull of Goldfield, Iowa and Jeffrey ( Jen ) Schipull of Belle Plaine, Minnesota; three grandchildren Brett Halvorson, Robyn Halvorson and Lauren Halvorson; sister Marilyn Jackson of Stanwood, Iowa and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
