Obituary

Sanford Rogeness, 85, of Britt passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2002, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.

Sanford R. Rogeness, the son of Swen and Rachel (Orvick) Rogeness, was born November 26, 1916, on the home farm near Crystal Lake.  He attended school at Crystal Lake graduating in 1934.  He then attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City graduating in 1938.  He returned to Crystal Lake and took up farming with his father, establishing one of the premier Polled Hereford herds in the country.  In 1992, he was recognized as the Hancock Winnebago County Cattleman producer of the year and in 1995, was inducted into the Polled Hereford Hall of Fame.  He was elected King of the Crystal Lake Centennial in 1998.  Sanford was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake.

Sanford is survived by a sister Lila Rogeness of Britt, two sisters-in-law: Gladys Rogeness of Britt and Ruby Rogeness of North Riverside, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Arthur, Grant, and Roy Rogeness and three sisters: Alice Grindle, Jennette Rogeness, and Valentine.

Sanford was a kind and gentle man with a strong and trusting faith in God.  He loved his family and we loved him too.  He could share information about all his nieces and nephews and their families.  He loved to visit with people of all ages and could strike up a conversation with anyone.  Sanford will always be remembered for his Norwegian phrases, unique sense of humor and ability to make us laugh.

We are truly blessed to have had such a special uncle and we will miss him.

Thanks Uncle Sanford.
