Obituary

Sherry Peterson, 61, of Clarion passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017. Funeral services for Sherry Peterson will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, with Pastor Doug Love officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Ewing Funeral Home in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Thursday. Sherry Lynn Peterson was born October 7, 1955 to Morris and DiAnn (Klooster) Peterson in Clarion, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Clarion, graduating from Clarion High School in 1974. During her high school years, Sherry worked at McConaughy's Restaurant in Clarion and detassled corn during the summers. Most recently, she was employed as a cook at the care center in Clarion. Sherry was united in marriage to Willie Rasmussen in 1977 and the couple made their home in Ames for a few years before moving back to Clarion. Sherry was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church in Belmond, where she was baptized and played the organ. She attended the Regular Baptist Camp in Clear Lake each summer during her high school years.  Sherry enjoyed knitting, playing piano and organ, and traveling around the Midwest on various bus tours over the years. She was friendly and outgoing, made friends easily and enjoyed life. She was an animal lover and currently had a cat, Midnight. Sherry is survived by her parents, Morris and DiAnn Peterson of Clarion; brother Jerry Peterson and lifelong friend Cindy Peterson of Milford, and brother Terry Peterson (Julie Butler) of Clarion; nephews Ted (Kendra) Peterson and their daughter of Clovis, California, Jeffrey Peterson of Fort Collins, Colorado, Vance Peterson (Jenny Good) and her daughters of Milford, and Jacob Peterson (Sydney Hersom) of Emmetsburg. Sherry was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
