Sheryl Elaine (Ask) Hill, the daughter of Roy and Frances (Pringle) Ask, was born September 19, 1947, in Webster City, Iowa. She attended school there and graduated from Webster City High School with the class of 1965.

After high school, Sheryl attended Webster City Junior College, where she met her husband, Harold Hill. The couple united in marriage on August 4, 1968, at First Baptist Church in Webster City. The couple made their home on the Hill family farm where they raised their three children.

Sheryl enjoyed working alongside Harold on the farm while also holding various jobs through the years. In 1990, driven by her desire to continue learning, Sheryl returned to school at the University of Northern Iowa, where she earned her degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology.

Sheryl’s faith was steadfast and she regularly attended church and continued to attend online in her last years. She enjoyed driving and was ready to travel at a moment’s notice to Minneapolis, Chicago or anywhere her friends and family were gathering. Her favorite travel included the annual trips to Japan to visit her grandchildren, which became one of her highlights of her stories to share.

Sheryl truly loved being around people and was known for her warm smile and welcoming hugs. She was always ready to listen, offering thoughtful advice or a comforting shoulder to lean on. In her quieter moments, she was highly skilled in knitting, crocheting, sewing, painting ceramics, and lovingly created items for her family.

She was a devoted advocate for the hearing-impaired community, believing deeply in the importance of inclusion and understanding. She took the time to learn sign language and generously volunteered her skills at church, helping ensure that worship and fellowship were accessible to all.

She is survived by her three children Nathan (Takako) Hill of Okinawa, Japan, Sara Hill of Des Moines, and Dori (Steve) Wimp of Des Moines; seven grandsons Victor Baruthio of France, William Baruthio of France, Samuel Baruthio of Des Moines, Benjamin Baruthio of Des Moines, Mitsuki Hill of Japan, Mitsuyoshi Hill of Japan, and Mitsunari Hill of Japan, great-grandson Warren Baruthio of Des Moines, sister-in-law Beverly Ask, sister-in-law Connie (David) Guetzke; brother-in-law Erwin (Iva Jeanne) Hill; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold in 2019, brothers John and David Ask.
