Shirley was united in marriage to Frank Engstrom of Renwick on January 23, 1942 at the Kanawha Lutheran Church.  They started farming east of Renwick and she lived there until she moved to Kanawha in October of 2003.  To this union three children were born, Bonita, Betty and Mike.

Shirley was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church southwest of Kanawha and when it closed in 1993 she became a member of Kanawha Lutheran.

She loved her family and enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great granddaughters.  She enjoyed doing a lot of yard work on the farm and working with her garden and flowers.  Shirley made quilts for Lutheran World Relief and Bremwood Children’s home in Waverly.  The grandkids remember her cooking and baking especially her cinnamon rolls.
