Obituary


Shirley Jean Holck, 73, of Britt, passed away Friday, January 14, 2005, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Shirley, the daughter of Clarence and Sylva (Applegate) Nall, was born February 13, 1931, in Corwith.  On August 7, 1963, Shirley was united in marriage with Maynard Holck in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  The couple made their home near Britt.  She was employed by Winnebago Industries in Forest City for a time and later at Casey's General Store in Britt, making doughnuts.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, attending their sporting events and dining out.  Shirley was a gracious host and an excellent cook and baker.  She also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, bowling, taking drives, and golfing.  She was an avid gardener and especially liked to mow the lawn.  Shirley was well known for her sewing and quilting.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt and the church's Ladies Circle Group.  Shirley was President of the Senior Citizens, a Rebekah and a member of The Red Hat Society.

Shirley is survived by her children: Gene Veldhouse and his wife, Mary of Nampa, Idaho, Richard Veldhouse of Danville, California, Dan Veldhouse and his wife, Deb of Britt, Doug Veldhouse of St. Paul, Minnesota, Curtis Holck and his wife, Sondra of Mason City, Mark Holck and his wife, Jodi of Clear Lake, and Mona Bauer and her husband, Ron of Britt; 16 grandchildren: Nick, China, Marquita, Jennifer, Kathryn, Natalie, Nicole, Jaime, Jessica, Cody, Chelsey, Macey, Sonya, Doug, Rob, and Emma; 4 great grandchildren; two brothers: Kenneth Nall and his wife, Virginia of Salem, Oregon, Richard and his wife, Betty of Corwith; two sisters: Lucille Kennedy and her husband, Calvin of Salem, Oregon, Phyllis Mount and her husband, George of Claremont, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Maynard in 2000, and one grandson.
