Obituary


Sylvia Douglas, 87, of Clarion passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.

Funeral services for Sylvia Douglas will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the Clarion Church of Christ, 420 North Main Street in Clarion, with Pastor Warren Curry officiating.  Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Sylvia Eleanor Chapman was born November 17, 1927 in Belmond, Iowa to Charles and Lillian Chapman. She attended rural school near Belmond until the family moved to a farm east of Kanawha. She graduated from Kanawha High School in May of 1946.

She was employed by Clarion Memorial Hospital as a Nurses Aide for 23 years, retiring in 1977. She was united in marriage to Sam Douglas in October of 1970. Sam passed away March 1, 1998.

She continued to live in their home until moving to the Meadows in 2006.

She enjoyed gardening, working with her flowers, baking and volunteering at the hospital gift shop.

Sylvia was a member of the Clarion Church of Christ, VFW Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors, American Legion Auxiliary, and Hospital Auxiliary.

Sylvia is survived by Lillian VanBuskirk (Owen) of Osage and Hope Mortimer (Donnie) of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother John and sister Marilyn Chapman.
