Obituary

Thelia Borel, 88, formerly of Clarion, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at the Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, with Deacon Michael Whitters officiating.

Thelia Ann Hinton was born to Taylor and Beulah (Black) Hinton, on a hot windy July day.  July 10th 1932 in Knierim, Iowa.  The 3rd of 4 children.  She attended several schools in the central Iowa area and graduated from Clarion, Iowa.

Thelia met the love of her life, Leonard Borel at Eagle Grove, at Greenwood Park, A cousin introduced them.  They dated several years and then married on August 19, 1950.  Thelia and Leonard started their married life in Eagle Grove and in a short time moved to Des Moines for a better job opportunity for Leonard.  Thelia worked many years in the Banking business as a teller and later an administrative assistant.  They lived in Des Moines in the same house for 55 years.  Later moving to Humboldt to be closer to family.

To this Union three children were born, Deborah Kae (Giles) Varrelmann, Lucinda Louise (Michael) Kunert, and Stephen Edward (Nancy) Borel.  She was very proud to have raised 3 strong independent individuals that made differences in people’s lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard and son Stephen.   Her siblings James Hugh Hinton, Richard Jerry Hinton, and Doris Jean Sharp.

Mourning her passing are her 2 daughters, 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  She was happy when the youngest great grandchild was born on her birthday. A beautiful and unique birthday present.

Her family were happy to be the recipient of her hobbies, shopping being the most, and then cooking and baking.  What did you bring me grandma was a common question asked by the grandchildren.

Thelia was a strong independent woman which she has passed to her daughters.  It takes strength to endure the trials of life, the joy and sorrow we all will have at some time.

She will be missed.
