She was one of 9 children, and told many amusing tales of her childhood and of the pranks and hijinks instigated by her brothers, particularly Paul and Lowell. She graduated from Manson High School in 1946.

After high school, Theo completed secretarial and business training in Des Moines at the American Institute of Business and secured a secretarial job in Des Moines.  She worked for 2 years until she set off for some adventure.  She traveled and worked at Yellowstone National Park, and traveled to Reseda, California, where she lived with her sister, Lottie Johnson and family, and worked in Los Angeles for a short time.

In December of 1950, she returned to Manson then secured another secretarial job in Des Moines. In June of 1950, Theo met George Tiffany while playing tennis in Drake Park. Family lore suggests that Theo beat George at tennis that day; it was the beginning of a 55 year long romance. In their early years, Theo and George lived in Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Wheaton, Illinois, and Windsor Heights, Iowa. Theo and George moved to Britt in 1985.

She was member of First Lutheran Church in Britt and was active in Lutheran churches all her life. She was also an active PEO member and past-president of the Hancock County American Cancer Society. She was an avid bridge player both with George and also later in several women’s bridge clubs. Her hobbies included sewing, needlepoint, entertaining, cooking; she loved to serve others. Above all, faith, family, and friends were most important to her.
