Obituary


Thomas "Tobe" Edwin Carlson, 82, of Kanawha, died November 25, 2003, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

Tobe, the son of Tom and Charlotte (Johnson) Carlson, was born December 1, 1920, near Renwick.  He grew up in the Renwick area where he attended country school.  At the age of 12, Tobe moved with his family to the farm south of Denhart where he finished his education and helped his father with the farming.

Tobe was drafted into the Army Air Corps in August of 1942 and then joined the infantry so he could go overseas.  After serving in the Army for nearly four years, Tobe was discharged in March of 1946, and returned home to the Kanawha area to farm with his dad.  He later moved with his father and brothers to the Cresco area where they farmed for nearly 20 years.  He returned to Kanawha in 1977.

Tobe was a member of the VFW, enjoyed playing Cribbage, and watching his favorite baseball team, the Cardinals.

Tobe is survived by his brothers and sisters: Marie Minor of Clarion, Donald R. Carlson and his wife, Marian, of Watertown, Wisconsin, Harold "Jim" Carlson of Kanawha, Margaret Anderson and her husband Clarence "Buster" of Kanawha, Mildred Anderson of North Platte, Nebraska; sisters-in-law Dorothy Carlson of Mason City and Ruby Carlson of Estherville; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Clifford, George, Leonard, Floyd, and Clarence " Beaver".
