Obituary


Todd Hansen, 51, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, son of Roger and Joann Hansen of Kanawha, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014 in New Mexico.

Memorial services for Todd Hansen will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, August 8, 2014, at the United Methodist Church, 402 North Main Street in Kanawha, with Pastor Mark Heath and Pastor Cindy Morrison officiating.  Private family burial will be at a later date.

Todd was born March 16, 1963 to Roger and Joann (Beier) Hansen in Britt, IA.   He attended Kanawha Community Schools and graduated in 1981.  Todd then attended Wartburg College and majored in Music Education, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree as well as the Music Major of the Year Award in 1985.  He received his Masters Degree from Arizona State University in Music Education.

 Todd married Sandra Rathje in October 1985.  They resided in Phoenix, AZ and were blessed with two beautiful children, Brianna and Maxwell.  Todd taught elementary music in the Paradise Valley School District for several years.

In August 2007 Todd moved to Santa Fe, NM and continued to share his love of teaching music to children in the Santa Fe public school system at E.J. Martinez Elementary School.  Todd was just awarded the New Mexico State Music Educator's Award.

Todd loved exploring New Mexico, crafts and ceramics.  Todd was an exceptional experimental cook with a love for New Mexico Red Chile.  Todd spread joy to everyone he met.

Todd is survived by his parents Roger and Joann (Beier) Hansen of Kanawha, IA; brother Brian and Janell (Kopaska) Hansen of Des Moines, IA; sister Angela and Jason Abbas of Perry, IA; daughter Brianna and son Maxwell of Phoenix, AZ; partner Randy Moreno of Santa Fe, NM; nephews Kyren Hansen and Alex Kopaska; nieces Alainee Hansen and Amy Kopaska; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

 Todd was preceded in death by grandparents Russel and Irma Hansen and Elmer and Faye Beier, step grandmother Gertrude Beier, cousin Brenden Greiman, and several aunts and uncles.
