Obituary


Tomy J. Drabek, 83, of Britt passed away Sunday, May 27, 2001 at his home.

Tomy, the son of James and Frances (Wellik) Drabek was born at home in Britt on March 5, 1918.  He attended schools in the Duncan and Hayfield areas.  Tomy worked with his Dad and brothers for Drabek and Sons Construction prior to the war.  He served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Mechanic with the Fleet Air Wing 4 during World War II.  Following his discharge in 1945 he returned to work with R.R. Johnston Construction Mason City and prior to his 1981 retirement he was employed by Curries Manufacturing in Mason City.

Tomy was united in marriage with Elaine Carman on October 18, 1945 in Hutchinson, Kansas; shortly after they made their home in Britt and remained there for their 54 years of marriage.

Tomy was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt, and Catholic Workman Branch #51 of Duncan.  He enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in his shop.

Tomy is survived by a son Donald and wife Robbie of Seattle, Washington; a daughter Pamela and husband Steve Burger of Kennewick, Washington.  Three grandchildren: Jennifer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Tony of Sumner, Iowa; and Sarah of Kennewick, Washington.  Two sisters: Marie Hejlik of Rockwell, Iowa; Clara Malek and husband Ernie of Britt, Iowa; one brother, Bill Drabek of Columbus, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine, his daughter Renee, his parents, infant brother James Jr., two sisters: Rose Ward and Helen Townsend, and four brothers: Frank, Raymond, George and Jim Drabek.
