Obituary


Twyla G. (Stadtlander) Rockow, 75, of Belmond passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond, with Pastor Leila Blackburn officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Saturday, February 19, 2022.

Memorials may be directed to the Belmond VFW or Belmond Boy Scouts Troop #16.

Twyla Gae, daughter of William and Marguerite (Crabtree) Stadtlander, was born on December 20, 1946 at the hospital in Belmond. She grew up in Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School in 1965. After high school, Twyla attended Hamilton’s College in Mason City and graduated in 1968.

On August 5, 1966, Twyla was united in marriage to Richard Rockow at the Belmond United Methodist Church. They moved to Mountain Home, Idaho while Rich was stationed there. They later moved to Fostoria, Iowa, then to Clarion, and settled in Belmond in 1971.

Twyla stayed home while Sam and Larry were little before working as a nurse’s aide at the care center in Clarion and then the Belmond Hospital. After they were out of the house, Twyla worked at Silver Screen, Red Barn, and Kum & Go.

Twyla loved her family. She was supportive and never missed a school activity. Some of her favorite memories are spent with family for the holidays. She loved traveling with Rich and family vacations when Sam and Larry were growing up.

Twyla was active in the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts. She was a member of the Belmond United Methodist Church and was active with the woman’s circles.

Twyla is survived by her husband Richard of Belmond; sons Sam (Janet) Rockow of Belmond and Larry Rockow of Middleton, Idaho; grandchildren Janey Gochenouer and Jeremy Rockow (Ashley Essmann); great-grandson Samuel Lee Rockow; step-great-grandchildren Tori (Jesse) Shaver, Jake Gochenouer, and Caleb Gochenouer; step-great-great-grandchildren Elena and Beau Shaver; sisters Shelia Stadtlander – Keever and Linnea Harris; brother-in-law Gerald Rockow; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; aunt and uncles Mary, Ernie, and Al; Rich’s parents Fred and Fannie Rockow; grandson-in-law Jay Gochenouer; and many cousins.
